Professor and expert on public policy
- Senator Tony Dean worked for nearly two decades as a public policy professional in the Government of Ontario, becoming deputy minister of labour, deputy minister of policy and associate secretary to the cabinet, and later secretary of the cabinet, head of the Ontario Public Service and clerk of the Executive Council. He is credited with developing the integrated 'Service Ontario' client service centres.
- In 2012 while with the public service, he was also tasked with repairing the relationships between the government of Ontario, teachers' federations and school boards following introduction of contentious legislation.
