Thanh Hai Ngo

Canada's first senator of Vietnamese descent

  • Senator Thanh Hai Ngo immigrated to Canada in 1975 after fleeing Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
  • Before entering politics, Senator Ngo spent his career as a teacher of English and French, having worked for the Vietnamese-American Association, the French Cultural Center based in Saigon and the French Alliance based in Malaysia. Following this, he taught at Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for nearly 30 years, starting in 1976.
