  • Senator Rose-May Poirier was a Progressive Conservative MLA in New Brunswick for three terms fro 1999 to 2010, serving variously as minister of human resources, minister of local government, and minister responsible for Aboriginal affairs. She was also the first woman to chair the P.C. caucus.
  • Prior to her appointment to the Senate she worked in provincial politics and served three terms as a representative for Rogersville-Kouchibouguac. Poirier also served on the town council of Saint-Louis de Kent.
