First Francophone woman from New Brunswick elected to House

  • Prior to her appointment to the Senate in 2002, Pierrette Ringuette represented the riding of Madawaska-Victoria as an MP for four years. She also represented the constituency of Madawaska-South as an MLA in the New Brunswick legislature for six years.
  • Senator Ringuette has the distinction of being the first Francophone woman in New Brunswick to be elected to the provincial Legislative Assembly (serving from 1987 to 1993) and the distinction of being the first Francophone woman from New Brunswick to be elected to the House of Commons (serving from 1993 to 1997).
