Art historian made a career of increasing access to the arts
- Senator Patricia Bovey worked at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) in the 1970s as a curator of traditional art, spent 20 years working in British Columbia, and returned to the WAG as Director from 1999 to 2004. While in B.C., she served as board chair of Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She was instrumental in the early development of the Inuit Art Centre at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
- Her wide and varied volunteer experience includes work with the Manitoba Rhodes Scholarship Selection committee, the board of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Eckhardt-Gramatté Foundation, the National Board for the Canadian Center for Cultural Management at the University of Waterloo, and the Jack Chambers Foundation. She is also a member of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and the St. Boniface Hospital Patient and Family Care Advisory Council and MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women's Art). Previously, she was board member of the Manitoba Artists in Healthcare, the board of trustees of the National Gallery of Canada, and the board of the Canada Council for the Arts.
