Former Banff mayor, hotelier and hospitality consultant
- First elected to Banff town council in 2004, Karen Sorensen served from 2004 to 2010 as a municipal councillor, and from 2010 to 2021 as mayor of Banff.
- During her time in municipal politics, in addition to her role as mayor of Banff Sorenson served as chair of the municipality's governance and finance committee and on the Banff Lake Louise Tourism Board. She was active in the creation of Banff's Environmental Master Plan and Community Plan, and she also participated in the establishment of the Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission. In addition, she co-chaired the Bow Valley Human-Wildlife Coexistence Round Table and served on bodies including Banff’s Assessment Review Board, Development Appeal Board, Heritage Corporation, and Bow Valley Regional Housing Association. She also served for four years as a school board trustee.
