Lawyer and Public Servant enters Senate

  • Senator Judith Keating Q.C. spent over 30 years in the Government of New Brunswick, serving as chief legislative counsel, chief legal advisor to the premier, New Brunswick’s First Nations representative, and a provincial chair of the working group on truth and reconciliation. She was also the first woman to serve as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of New Brunswick.
  • She has fought for the equal status of both official languages in New Brunswick and for the equal and just treatment of women in the legal profession. She was the founder and first president of New Brunswick’s Women in Law. She is a past member of the board of Women in Transition, was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2002, and received the 2015 Muriel Corkery-Ryan Q.C. Award to honour her contributions to the legal profession and her role as a mentor to women.
